1. Overview
A profit goal becomes useful when a founder can connect it to the way the business actually earns and spends money. Hal v0.1 introduces Profit Even Point, a tool designed to answer a concrete planning question: how many customers would the business need to reach its target profit? It helps move the conversation from an abstract ambition to a measurable commercial target.
2. Turn profit goals into customer targets
Profit Even Point gives founders a clear bridge between the profit they want and the customers required to reach it. Instead of keeping the goal in a spreadsheet or in your head, you can turn it into a commercial target, align sales and capacity around it, and validate throughout the year that the company is on course to reach and surpass its goals.
3. How it works
1. Open Profit Even Point in Hal. 2. On the left, enter your income, expenses, and target profit. 3. Review the customer count calculated on the right. 4. Compare that target with your team’s capacity, pipeline, and pricing. 5. Update the inputs when your costs, prices, or customer economics change.
At the start of the year, use it to estimate your target number of customers in order to not only hit break-even point, but also hit your profit goal targets. Throughout the year, come back to it every now and then to update your income and expenses estimates to validate your company is on course to hit and surpass your profit even point.
4. Try the new feature
Before the month begins, write down the sales volume, average revenue per customer, expected expenses, and target profit behind your plan. Then ask the validation questions: Can the team serve that many customers? Does the price leave enough margin? Which costs rise as sales grow? A customer target is useful because it forces those tradeoffs into the open.
Hal keeps the goal close to the numbers that shape it, bringing profit planning and customer targets into one clear view. Ready to turn your profit target into a concrete customer goal? Open Hal and calculate your Profit Even Point with your own business numbers.
