1. Overview
Founder profit can be difficult to assess when company spending is not organized around a consistent framework. Hal v0.81 introduces Founder Profit Analysis, available across Hal plans, to help founders evaluate what they should be working toward based on their actual sales range and target percentages informed by Mike Michalowicz’s Profit First methodology.
2. Build toward founder profit
Founders need a clear way to evaluate what they are earning from the business alongside what the company sells. We built Founder Profit Analysis to organize expenses and compare current founder profit with target percentages informed by Mike Michalowicz’s Profit First methodology. Use the targets as a practical starting point and adapt the plan as the business grows.
3. How it works
1. Open Organization and review your profit classifications. 2. Open Analysis. 3. Find the categories under Unclassified expenses. 4. Drag each category into the appropriate profit classification. 5. Review your founder profit against the target for your actual sales range. 6. Use the comparison to examine costs, pricing, and allocation habits that may need attention.
Complete categorization matters. Your business model, stage, obligations, and cash needs should also inform any decision.
4. Try the new feature
Look beyond the final percentage. Identify which expense groups pull the result away from the target, which costs are essential to current growth, and where pricing or allocation may deserve attention. Choose one change to test, give it a review date, and watch both company stability and founder outcomes. A benchmark should sharpen judgment, not replace it.
Hal makes founder profit visible next to the business numbers behind it. Want to understand what your current sales and expenses mean for your own profit target? Open Hal and review Founder Profit Analysis with real, classified data.
